Holy Ghost Promptings

I am humbled when our Heavenly Father guides me through His inspiration and I have learned to recognise those feelings and to trust and follow them. There were times in my life too when I tried to go it alone and those were times when it never ended well.

But what is inspiration and how do we recognise it? Inspiration comes in different ways, throught the spirit, or through the Power of the Holy Ghost.

The guidance of the spirit is available to every soul and is known as the light of Christ, or as many will know, our conscience. Each of us have been blessed with this guidance by a loving Father in Heaven. Our conscience helps us to know what is right and wrong.

Inspiration by the power of the Holy Ghost is separate and although available to every living soul, is not accepted by all, even those who have already received it can reject it. To receive this gift we must fully embrace it.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost differs to the guidance we receive through our conscience as it is bestowed upon us following baptism by the proper priesthood authority.

The companionship of the Holy Ghost is a gift to us but not automatically. We must live worthily to receive it’s influence. That doesn’t mean we must be perfect, but we do need to be tryng to keep the Covenants we have made.

The spirit of revelation can come immediately and intensely, other times subtly and gradually. Sometimes the promptings can be so delicate we may not recognise them. No matter the pattern, the light it provides will enlighten our understanding.

Living worthy invites the spirit of revelation into our lives. The Holy Ghost is a spiritual voice that comes into the mind as a thought or a feeling. We will never make a mistake without first being warned by promptings of the Spirit.

Some of the things that will increase our ability to feel the influence of the Holy Ghost is by serving others as it refines our spirits. By becoming the answer to someone else’s prayer we often find the answer to our own.

Emotions such as anger, loudness and dishonesty will drive the Holy Ghost away. Contention is of satan. When we are rested and not stressed we will also feel and hear promptings more clearly as we are alert.

Discovering how the Holy Ghost works in our life is the quest of a lifetime, but when we know those feelings when they come, we will never be deceived or destroyed and will walk with confidence that God guides our footsteps.

We will know with an assurance that our Heavenly Father loves us and knows us – David
